I just finished breaking in my new os vspec. Well i was running it yesterday and it had rained and quit. I was tunning it down and it rained earlier. well i hit a big puddle of water (like a dumbass) and imediatley the engine cut out and went cold. I then took the air filter off and flushed the engine with fuel and restarted it ( started right up) got it back up to temp and shut it down to cool properly. Later i disassembled the engine, cleaned and flushed every piece of with wd40, cleaned all the deposits out. reassembled flushed with nitro and coated it real well with after run oil. My engine still has tons of compression, no parts look stressed (from cooling off to quickly) and actually is a tighter then before i cleaned it.


Is there anything i did wrong in this scenario??? I think in retrospect starting the engine back up was probably not the best idea, but it wasnt' that hot to begin with (200) And i was freaking out because it was alot of water.

What problems are you having with it. Hell if you can fire it up right now after the dip in the pool - you should be good. If you are having problems - post the issues....

Nothing wrong with what you did, but not everything was really necessary. What I'd have done would have been to remove the glow plug, spin the engine with the starter or pull cord to clear any liquid out, put the plug back in and fire it up. After running for a bit, any residual water would be gone. After that, I'd have shut it down when I was done and put some after-run in.

You did more than i would have done. I would have just spun the water out with the plug out, and ran monkey snot through the motor, and let it sit for a while before restarting. Keep out of those puddles!

"kinda" the same thing happened to me last summer at a proseries race. I was running down the back straight, hit a small crease in lane "just right" and the buggy went end over end, over barrier, turn marshal ducked, and the car ended up in a creek!!! took v-spec apart, used wd-40 all over, reassembled, left plug out and turned over on box for a few, installed new plug, ran like a dream! so, i do not think you hurt the engine at all...but just my story and my .02

I don't think you hurt it. I have seen engines suck water & hydrolock which bent the connecting rod but that would have been obvious.

I'd have just took the plug out and turned it over with the starter box to blow out any excess water and then put the plug back in and run it. I have had planes go in a pond before and just started them back up without problems. No, I don't fly that bad. I was trying float flying and the pond was too small to do a smooth landing so sometimes I flipped it.
