traxxax trx 2.5 engine

My brother in law has a traxxax rustler and i was suprised how fast it was. (i have not seen many nitro cars run by the way, yet i just bought a mugen:lol:) So when i got home i did some research on the trx 2.5 engine. It is reletively cheap (bout 120 $$$) and they say comes close to 50,000 rpm!!! he has also not had any problems with it whatsoever. comes with alot of the ready to run kits. My question is, are the 300-500 dollar engines that much better? (oh and the 2.5 comes with manifold and pipe lol). I know the racing engines have better fuel millege, but are they that much faster???? just wondering, i am not a big racer, (will race eventually) I mean seriously are the expensive engines that much better?? I know my .26 has more torque but i still don't think it will have the speed of this RTR engine.

How much better are the more expensive engines PERFORMANCE wise. I am seriously thinking about getting a cheap engine

all in all this revelation is kind of disapointing.

It matters what engine. The Traxxas 2.5 is not that good of an engine and yes those 300-500$$ Engines are most likely better than the 2.5. The 2.5 is a .15 engine. It will not work good in your Mugen. If you want a Cheap engine look at the Go Technology Engines. They are decent at a low price.

You'd have to make your own engine mount, Traxxas uses a different spacing with their engines.

The carb. isn't that good and the engines tend to have air leaks.

But for what they were designed for they don't do too bad. My first gen. revo was pushed around pretty good by the little .15 but in anything heavier they would struggle. The 3.3 uses the same rod as the 2.5 but with the higher piston weight it breaks a lot of connecting rods right down the middle.
