If you're asking about the shims that gon outside of the diffs, this is a direct quote from Chad Bradley.
"when the car is brand new I shim the gear mesh of the diff and pinion
1 on the diff gear side and 3 on the diff case side, after a couple
club races i shim 2 and 2."

If you're asking about the smaller, internal shims... direct quote from Rick McCreary...
"i use 2 behind each gear on all my X2 stuff. i run my internals way
longer that 4-5 races. i should probably change them but i haven't. i
have never changed the ones in my truck from the day i got it (right
after 2007 truck nationals) still going strong. changed the oild but
not the gears. "

Hope this helps.

If u are using the hardened one from HB or Sacker, Use the black shims that come with the gears. I am doing that for most of my HNs without any problem so far.

My LHS also mentioned to me that the savage ones fit too but I have never tried & also not sure if they are hardened.

Regards,
Joe Ling
