You just look at the color of the spring. And here's the chart for the clutch springs.

Silver: .040 wire with 30 degree angle Hard
Gold: .040 wire with 25 degree angle
Green: .036 wire with 30 degree angle
Black: .036 wire with 25 degree angle Soft

strange, If I remember last year when I got springs the packages said the colors but the springs in the bag were all silver. This was at my lhs, thats why I was confused. so it looks like this is why my clutch is slipping and eating shoes. I will definetly get some greens

Anyone tried black and gold springs with losi long-life shoes? And has anyone ever tried to vent a losi clutch bell?

i personally would leave a carbon or 2 in there...they help lube the clutch and prevent alum slag from building up....they also make the alum shoes last just that much longer....and as a bonus it will take away a little wheel spin which is common with 4 alum shoe set-up.

My last set up was 2 alluminum and 2 carbon and the carbon seamed to wear down to the spring fairly quick. maybe a softer spring was needed on the carbon. Not sure what color I was running. I'll try any combo though once to see.

The losi long wear alum. shoes with 4 gold worked ok and lasted quite a while for me. The best shoes i've found are the answer-rc shoes. They last about the same as the long wears, but the performance is much better. The shoes come with 3 sets of springs. Golds are .9, silver 1.0, black 1.1. I run a truggy and have found for me that 2 gold and 2 silver works best. Not to be confused with losi's gold and silver springs, these are lighter. Best of all you can purchase 4 shoes and 12 springs cheaper than buying just shoes from a different company. Check out answer-rcusa.com.
