Oil hole faces the front of the motor away from the backplate. The reason it matters is that the lower bushing is tapered on the crank side.

The carb is the same (21J), and the piston/sleeve are the same quality, just in a 5 port design. The ninja is IMO and in the opinion of many others, the best v-spec ever made. The speed is a great engine, but for the price I would rather have the ninja. I guess it all depends on how you look at it. If you want the super smooth powerband of the speed, there is nothing that can replace that, but the ninja is every bit as good as the speed(quality wise).

i guess i dont know anything about the engines....

Default pinch?

in general how much fuel thru a new p/s/r/ b4 it actually breaks in and stops getting stuck.

Plain and simple, OS motors don't have the pinch that others do. That is partly why they run so well. They don't have all of that excess pinch to get rid of before they start to make power. If it still has good compression with a plug in, run the hell out of it. My findings are that OS engines loose most of thier pinch fast, but retain enough to have very good compression for the life of the engine.

my speed has about 4 gallons through it and when cold has good pinch but when it warms up it loses most of it ,makes me worry a little about life expectancy but runs good and cool

well I just picked up a used speed with 1 gal through it, to use in my future buggy... lol.. haven't even bought a buggy but bought speed because of all the raves on the normal vspec.

and if I have to rebuild in 5 gal's (probably won't since i tend to run rich and and 20%) tower has p/s/r speed comb for 169. which price of a half decent motor anyways.

Default os speed

my first speed went thirteen gallons mag head before it lost compression, put new psl and bearings back up motor now , this speed in my car is at nine gallons and still cant turn it over buy hand the life of this motor is crazy good. both the nova and os seem to run well but havent seen life exp of nova yet.

I run OS I have one that has 12 gallons on it and still runs. Now not saying it runs at the top of its game but it still runs. I pit at 11 minutes and can go for 12 1/2. its plenty of power and holds a tune great. I also have to the Toro and I PERSONALLY dont like it. to much power when I dont need it and not enough where I do. That is my opinion. I know a guy that will only run that engine period. Both are good, just what do you prefer
