I had the old Dynamite Mach .26 which is a very similar engine. It was possibly my most favorite nitro engine. I never had to mess with needle settings and it had tons of torque. I actuallly have a 427 for sale brand new. If I wasn't into gasoline cars so much now, I would have kept it myself.

madmaxx, I have been running 30% byrons gen 2 through my sons mach 427 for over 6 gallons and has run great. I did however add a copper shim, can't remember what size now though.

The difference between the gold and teal head 427's are in the carbs.
Gold has a smaller carb venturi.
Teal has a larger carb venturi and thus breathes better making more power.
I have found that these engines like to run on 30% with a cold plug. No need for extra head shims.
They can be had on ebay for around the $100 to $140 range.
Great budget motor.

I love my Mach 427. Unreal power for an RTR. I think I am going to start running 30% in mine with the stock shim. What exact plugs are you guys running?

mine like dynamite medium plugs... do the glow plugs affect the temp of the motor any? i am runnin 20% nitrotane in mine....

thnx for the replies everyone
so no shim's needed with 25%?
there are a few difference's between the carrot top and the sky top, here are the part #'s http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=7297001
i'm going to be using the head button from the sky top and i'm looking for a carb that will fit and give me the option to run different size venturi's. LOSI also make's a 9.5mm carb that's fit's this motor but i don't want to run that large of a carb and personally i think with a 7mm or 8mm insert these would be much improved NO i don't wanna use the 3 needle carb from the dynamite Xp's lol
any tip's on which pipe to use? i currently have an OFNA 063 on there....

I ran 5 gallons or so through mine in my rtr 8t before I jumped on the grp wagon and that thing ran great. Break in was almost nothing, just a couple tanks in the street and then strait to the track wide open, and also just leaned it a hair on the top and basically never touched it again.

I have a teal headed Mach 427 in a Kyosho st-rr. The motor is powerful and as said above very easy to tune. Mine likes to run in the 205-215 range. Gas mileage is not the best but it does OK. We pit at 7 1/2 minutes. I used 20% and MC59's for break-in and switched to Byrons Gen2 30% and MC8's after. No extra shims added. Mine has about 6 gallons on it and for club racing it can't be beat! Still has great compression and once tuned needs very little adjustment. I'm using the RTR losi sport pipe and have found it to work better than my JP2 and JP3. I would recommend it in a heartbeat!

Blew mine up!
The bottom end on mine let loose last weekend after 2 gallons through it!. It has been sent to Horizon Hobby, they are going to see if they"ll warranty it. I have a post on this subject in this forum.

I run 30% and have one shim. Very Very strong motor, Gas hog though. (I drive using the throttle like an on/off switch though!)
