While the Hyper 9 is a good buggy, its still in evolution too. hyper9 then the 2.0 version and I believe there is a GL version available or will be soon with all the hops of a "team car". After all that I would still get the Mugen, "butta" right out of the box. Build it and race it...

The Mugen is a much faster/agile car. However it is much much more fragile.

The the Hyper 9 is not quite as a competitive car, however it can be setup to go just as fast and seems to be MUCH more reliable.

I asked the same question earlier in the year go to search and look for mugen mbx6 vs hyper 9 and look at some of the responces I had recived and also the hyper 9 is also 80% prebuilt didnt know if you had knew that or not. I personaly did go with the mbx6 and they are now offering a a factory built kit a compition race roller. It does cost a bit more.

personally ive driven both and like the hyper 9 much better. once you get the hyper 9 set up right it has more turning then any buggy ive tried. it also gets its rear settled very quickly after making a turn and i wish the same could be said about the mugen. even after countless setup changes my bro couldnt get the rear of the mugen to straiten quickly and i know alot of other people have had this problem as well. the mugen is better quality though.

I have driven both and like the mugen better in either aspect. Especially when I get throttle happy the mbx6 loves it. The 2 biggest things I have found a diffrence is, the hyper 9 is not as predicable exiting turns and the mugen is also more forgiving on a jump landing. The build quality and reliability goes to the mugen hands down. I have only had 2 DNF's all year and neither where the cars fault. (Rod got sloppy and kept flaming out and the other time I forgot to lok-tite the ackerman arm bushing/nut.... Thats a good spot for some red stuff) My freind with the hyper 9 has broken arms, diffs, and you name it.

If you did go with the mugen over the hyper 9 ( I wouldn't) then you might want to consider the tamiya 801x instead. It handles like a mugen style wise, but does it better. it is a bit heavy , but I think that helps it actually.
