Default What Engine is Best? .21 for Buggy

I need to buy a new .21 for an RC8. I have 600 for engine and pipe. I am torn between the OS worlds and RB C6 BB2. Any comments are welcomed. I am new to nitro racing, but have run nitro for while. Thanks in advance for any help.

I probably shouldn't post this, but I have to ask. If you're new to nitro racing why on earth spend that much on an engine? Most people actually are slowed by an overly powerful engine. For $600 you could buy THREE very capable engines. If I was spending $600 I'd go with a Nova or Go (3-port race) which ~$185) and save the rest or have a practice/race engine setup.

I wouldn't spend 600 on a engine/pipe combo. Sirio CL3B and 2013 pipe will run you less than 300. Or any 3port engine that will give you good driveability.

Get a EBM5 full mod and a Dynamite 086 for racing $400 total, and a Go 3 port sport for practice. And you will have $100 left.

It sounds like you want a very bad boy to strap into your buggy. But honestly I would go another route. I have several brands of motors that I like OS, Grp, Novarossi, Rb , etc. Hands down a Novarossi is my first choice, they are tried and true and I always get my money's worth out of them. I am not going to suggest some type of low end sport motor but for the money a Grp non tuned is almost impossible to beat. You can pick one up for about 190.00 to your door. It is a long stroke 5 port motor and is very high quality.I was able to see one run and drive it as well and the motor will haul the mail! Most of the sport type motors out there are three ports and while a 3 port can rock on the right track they almost always seem to fall a little short on the big end. Now I realize races are not won in the straights but a 5 port just pulls so much better. Good luck.

im also trying to find a decent engine for my first nitro buggy and have narrowed it down to these 2. os .21vg or the grp .21 non tuned. they are both in my budget range for now. which pipe would work the best for each of these ?

Hands down the grp. I have had a vg and while they run decent the grp has more raw power. I used a 2050 when I had the vg, and on the grp I drove we bolted on a dynamite 053 and were very happy with the results. The vg gets the nod in fuel mileage though as I could get right around 10 mins to a tank. I dont actually own a grp "yet" but from what I have seen the motor gets about average runtime, somewhere in the 8:30-9:00 range.

If you are new to racing, then I'd stick with a middle end motor. The amount you have for your motor goes toward the higher end of the motor spektrum, which you don't need. Especially since you are starting out. The standard V-spec would be great for you to use, the only thing is that I'd try and get a version with the cermic rear bearing installed already. Supposedly, OS is coming out with another vspec with some of the features of the Speed version without the price. Ceramic rear bearing, hard coated crank, etc. This motor should be around 350 -400 depending on the store. Also, the novarossi lines would be good too. With the amount you have, you could even get a RBC6. There are alot of options, but getting a motor in the middle of the performance and price ranges will help you learn to race and not rely on power alone for your finish placement in a race. This will lead you to become a better driver and when the time comes for an upgrade, you'll be better suited and ready for it. Good luck.

Also, for pipes, I'd go with either the JP3 or JP4 pipes. The JP3 will give you more flexibility if you decide to run a truggy later.
