These stick packs have too much amperage for a starter box. I tried it last summer. Every 2-3 weekends and one of the motors would smoke--sometimes spit blue/orange sparks. I went to a normal starter box 14.8V battery and all is well now. Smaller stick packs would be much better if you can bring yourself to buying smaller batteries. LOL.

2s2p 6000mAh 7.4V @ 20C = 120 amps.

4s1p 2000mAh 14.8V @ 15C = 30 amps.

so basically its an amps problem where the motors cant handle it? hmm seems weird when motors "like that" are supposed to be able to handle that.

I am really tired of being let down by this weak losi starter box. It breaks all the time and I have a lipo and wet noodle throughout. A few weeks ago the motors shorted out and crashed the 4s losi lipo down below the low voltage threashold. I still dont know if the lipo will ever be the same. I am switching to the ofna truggy box. I do have a question I found a top plate from protek specific for the lios 8 cars but I am not sure if it fits just the buggy or if I can use it on my truggy too. Below is a link. Anyone have any experience with this top?

Portek 8ight starter box top

use your losi top to scribe the cutout's from the losi box onto the Truggy box and get Dremeling.....it Can be done to be IDENTICAL to the losi.

You mean transfer the front and rear alignment pieces from the losi box to the ofna box?

I just about finished the break in on my new JX 21 and the LOSI box so far has worked flawless. Everything is stock and I am running a cheap 4 cell LIPO from ebay. I am going to pick up an extra set of motors for backup after reading this thread.

make sure you get the pinions as well since they are a pain to get off if you can get them off.

I have put the Ofna Truggy start entire assembly into the Losi box. It's tight. The motors actually push on the sides of the Losi box, BARELY. But not enough to keep the lid from closing. So the only thing I had to do was dremel the starter wheel adjustment slot. This adjustment slot is already slotted from Ofna, I just took it a bit farther. I have started 1.0, 2.0, and truggy1.0 with it. Very easy. Now I just need to get some weekends of use to see how durable it will be.

From what i'm reading 14.8 volt is the size Lipo i need for my box. I've come down to two batteries and can't decide. 4000mAh @ 15c burst/10c continuous or a 2200mAh battery with 30c burst/20c continuous? which one would be better for a staterbox? this would be the first lipo i ever by so....i'm not quite sure which one is better. (if one is much better than the other, why?) thanks
