Why can't we use a standard clutch nut?...Doesn't the groove align with the springs?

Bump for the great shoe

Correct, the groove does not line up the way it should. I see the 808 in your signiture. I race with an 808 guy that drives for XRay. He chooses the Impulse-r/c shoes over the XRay set up. I know that he runs the AE flywheel and clutch nut, along with the AE springs. He said it works perfect!

Yes, if you wanted to keep the flywheels mounted on more than one engine you would need more than one flywheel. Impulse-r/c AE style shoes are intended for the RC8/T series of cars, however I know of several guys running them on other flywheels with the AE nut. That is one of the reasons that I started this thread so people could let others know there setup with them. I get calls from guys running them with great reviews on Losi, Mugen, XRay, Kyosho, Caster.....ect. The idea is to save money on maintaining your clutch (the heart of an 1/8th scale buggy or truggy). Even if you had to switch flywheel and clutch nut youll save a lot in the long run. If your fly wheel now is good, wait and make the switch when it wears out.
The medium's are made from 6061 AL. They are going to grab the bell a little more. Mostly used on tracks with lots of traction. They are a little softer though so they are going to wear a little faster. The hards are made from 2024 AL offering the perfect ballance in wear and performance. They will last longer because they are a harder material, but not to hard that they are going to slip. I have had ZERO negative feed back on my clutch shoes and have sold over 3000 sets!
Thanks

The same thing applies for the D8 & D8T. I have been using just the AE clutch nut and springs with the HB flywheel and clutch bell. I have been using the 2024 shoes with 1.0 springs and it works great. It beats trimming the carbon shoes and the AE springs are so easy to take off when you need to do maintenance on the clutch.
