Official GRP .21 non-tuned off road buggy engine thread!

I know I have a thread that still isn't off the first page but decided to do the trade so I have one of these engines now. This is just a thread to share your opinions on the engine as well as advice for fellow racers who have it. I know all the info I can get would be helpful to me and I think other guys will like it too.

Check out Mark, At Powerhouse. His thread in in my signature. He has good information on these engines, and any other engine for that matter

I now have both the tuned and non tuned. I can't figure out which one is faster! I had the non tuned first so it might just be the amount of time I've had with it. I'm using the OS LC3 plug with the non-tuned and it loves it.

sounds great guys what type of runt times are you seeing? Also should I be running cold medium or hot plugs with it?

I have always used a med plug but recently decided to try an OS P3 hot plug. So far I am digging the hot plug. It seems to start easier once I hit the engine with the heat gun and it idles better too. I converted my GRP to take turbo plugs (just my personal preference no real advantage).

The LC3 that I'm using is hot. I'm getting about 11mins run time using it in a 808 with a 6mm insert and a TTR2035 pipe.

So the non-tuned version uses standard plugs?

Yes standard long reach plug and it uses a head button, if memory serves the tuned is a single piece for the cooling head and button are one piece.

Not really on topic but related: With non-turbo engines .21's always use cold to medium plugs, with turbos it's always hot. Are they just a different calibration? I though I'd ask here because GRP's seem to be used by the same people both ways.

The plug button is part of the cooling head right?

the non tuned has a one piece head so you cant just change the button to turbo. the non tuned GRP's that are modded by Powerhouse have proven to out perform the tuned one. The special he has going right now he has GRP's modded for $280, which is cheapere then the tuned yet still outperforms it. I ran mine last night and swear by it now. It was set rich b/c it was being broken in but had power eveywhere and held its tune. If you were looking at getting a GRP i strongly suggest giving this modded motor a look.

So I was thinking I would get some medium plugs. Also will inserts come with the engine? Just to make sure because I am new and insert is something you put into the carb to not allow you to go to full throttle to save fuel correct?
