Default Clutch assembly problem

Hey guys, probably a stupid newbie question...

I'm tryin to assemble an Ofna buggy clutch, 3 shoe, shoes seem to go on ok, but I'm having a problem with the spring - if I push the shoe/pring down onto the stud too much, I can't pull the spring back because it hits the nut, but if I try to pull the spring back before its on the stud, it just comes off and doesn't sit over the stud anymore

I'm using a regular clutch tool..

I watched videos on youtube, it seems pretty straight forward but I can't see up close enough what is happening with the spring

Is it the way the spring is wound? The part that goes to the nut is lower than the part that goes on the shoe, I guess if it were the other way it would work. The shoes/springs are from XTM, but look like they should work.. they are plastic

Anyone got a clue? Really want to assemble my big block already

Thanks!

that's how they normally look, however mine are flipped around - the part the grabs onto the nut is on the bottom, making it like impossible to slip on..

do XTM engines spin backwards or something?

on the xtm cars I have worked on, I know that the x-terminator has the shoes on backwards form the factory, I tried to put them on the normal way, and the way that they are molded would not allow it. Just get the ofna(ho bao) plastic shoes, they last a long ass time and are pretty inexpensive
