Someone posted this on another forum, and it was a great discussion. I would liek to see your opinions on whether you think RC is a sport or just a hobby.

The definition of sport:

1. The rules of the activity become standardized.(The sport has official rules applied whenever and wherever they are done.)


2. Official regulatory agencies take over rule enforcement(Governing bodies)


3. Organizational and technical aspects of the activity become important.(Sports occur under controlled conditions in which there are specific expectations for everyone involved.)


4. The learning of game skills becomes formalized.(participants must know the rules of the game.)

Personally, I think of you race-its a sport. If you are just the average joe bash weekend warrior-its a hobby. Opinions?

It all depends on what you wanna think or believe.

If you want it to be a sport, its a sport.

If you want it to be a hobby, then it is.


Some times there needs to be a balance to keep it all good

well

it would be a much more enjoyed hobby in australia if it was reconized as a sport. as we all spend countless hours prepareing and training for racing and to get better. so i should be a world known sport.

most classes have a world cup so its shoul d be a sport from that only

I would say it depends on what you are looking to get out of it. In the begining I bashed and I would say it was a hobby. Now I strictly race and I am competetive so it is a sport to me. It will ALWAYS be a hobby but fo those who take it seriously it becomes a sport. Same as any other sport.

Depends on the individual.........to me it has definitely become a sport ..............and I really enjoy the organized part of it ..........I has made "1/8th nitro buggy " huge ! I love big events and the thrill of racing !

To the guy with a T-maxx.......Savage , etc . that's wants to go out and tear it up in the yard or the street .......that's awsome too ! I would consider it to be a hobby at that point though . I have alot of fun doing this as well .

I've been sponsored for about 3 years now, but still call it a hobby, but maybe this is my way of thinking just to not take too seriously though.

There is a difference between doing your best and taking it too seriously, you just need to do a reality check every now and then and you're fine

Actually it's classified as a drug. The purchasing of vehicles, engines & parts. To achieve a high or satisfy an addiction. Each new vehicle or engine is an effort to achieve a higher high. Each race or Bash party is to feed the monkey on ones back.

It's not a sport if you can't get hurt. (hmmm... does a broken toe count? I guess it's a sport)

i think when you are sitting in your shed or shop drinking a cold one rebuilding your car after the big race telling lies to each other then its a hobby .
then when you go to the track and you have 15 cars out on the track tempers get hot and every one is going for the big win then is more of a sport either way you call like the other post says ilove it !

It is both. The competition and tuning aspects to prepare for races make it a sport. One thing it lacks as far as sports go though is any physical activity. Which makes it hard to call an actual sport for that reason.
