Default OS .21 Vspec II WC vs. NovaRossi Plus 21-4 BUGGY

Can anyone plz comment on the comparison between these two engines?

I posted a thread on the engine forum, and got no response. My 2 yrs old Vspec is losing compression. Looking to replace it when the tax rebate comes in.

Thanks a lot in advance.

The Plus 21-4 is cheaper and offers the same smooth powerful feel. Drop a ceramic bearing and turbo button if needed. Get the NR short smooth header and a 9901 or 9853 pipe. The Sirio 2013 pipeset work also. Not saying the OS Speed is not good, by all means it very good, but the NR 21-4 undercuts it in the price range.

+1, you can kick ass with both, but for the money, the Plus win's, and you can find modded Plus 4's for less than a speed.

AND most of the time NR mills will last alittle bit longer if taken care of properly.

If you have the right sources, you can even buy two Plus 21-4 engines for the price of one VSPEC Speed WC.

I own both of these engines, both are excellent and you will not ne dissapointed with either.
I run my O.S with the 2060 pipe set, the nova has the short square header coupled with the 9901 pipe.
when you first crack the throttle the O.S has a bit more snap but the Nova seems to get on the pipe much quicker and seems to have a bit more top end pull than the O.S, but on most tracks this would probably be unnoticeable.
at my last race i swaped engines and my laptimes were pretty even but i went with the O.S during the main cause the Nova flammed on me a couple of times for no reason whatsoever which shaked my confidence a bit could have been tunning issue but the engine was running fine and fired right back up afterwards steady iddle and everything. so i really don't know...
Overall i would still recomend the Nova simply because the O.S costs an arm and a leg even though it's easier to tune and seems more reliable it's not worth 200 dollars extra.

Thanks a lot for all the advices

I could get the OS Vspec II WC for about $400 here:

http://www.rc-toro.com/product_info....5c07396ea018c2

I don't see NR has that much of a price advantage over OS. NR Plus 4 is almost $300. Don't get me wrong. $100 is still a lot $$$$

As far as reliablity, does anyone else have this tuning/flamout issue with the NR Plus 4?

No tunning issues whatso ever, add the shim that comes with it and it's a land missile, no joke, to me the Plus 4 has been the best tunning NR i have seen, next to the P5. You can find them here, and no breakin required. www.protwistermods.com

You can also rebuild your existing VSPEC for a lot less. If the bearings are still good, get a piston, rod, and sleeve.

Here are links for the parts on A-Main. You can find them cheaper, this is just an example. We can get them locally from Mike's Hobbies for a lot less.

Con rod $39.99
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/6207

Piston Pin $6.29

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/6214

Piston Pin Retaining Clips $2.09

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/6212

Piston and sleeve $129.99

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...oducts_id/6187

About $180 total. If you are used to the VSPEC, you will find that the Speed is "less snappy." Maybe more power overall, but the VSPEC is punchier. And granted, it is in a Truggy, with a bigger tank... but I'm getting 12+ minute runtimes out of my VSPEC. I don't think either of the others will do that.

This is only if the crank pin is good. If its worn or oval, toss the engine if it needs all those parts.
