Default starter box battery question??

I was thinking about using a lipo in my starter box but i have a couple concerns. first, is there any way to prevent over discharging, second, do you guy's use 2-2cell or 1-4cell. and any other info to convert it over to lipo. Thanks Mike

Most use 1 14.8 4s lipo. As far as over charging, you just have to keep track of how much you use it. I will be going lipo very soon.

I've been using a single 3s lipo in mine as I had one sitting around that I hardly use. It's a 5000 mAh and turns the wheel just fine. On an average day starting one buggy it takes out about 2000 mAh, so the low voltage is never an issue for me. If I'm using it more than normal for some reason I'll check the voltage or put it on a charger for 20-30 minutes.

SO much lighter with the lipo.

I use two 7.4v lipo batteries in series. I do this because I race electric so if I ever needed a battery I could steal one from my starter box.

i would just get a 4s 14.8 volt battery, they hold up well, just need to balance charge to be sure all the cells stay good, and disconnect when you are not using the box, i can go a few weeks on a charge with mine

I use a single losi 4S (14.8) lipo for my starter boxes. Regarding overdischarging, I just charge it every other day and I'm fine. If you get a lipo for your starter box, initially keep a mental note of how much you use it then at the end of your first day charge it again and see how much you put into it. That way you have a reference point to know how often you should charge it in the future.

I am pretty sure you can find it for less money than that at a-main or a few other places, but that is the battery I have in all 3 of my starter boxes.

+1 on the Losi 4s. I use this same battery 2200 and it lasts all day turning over a stubborn truggy engine. At the end of the day it still reads 14+ volts and the min cut off value is 12.8v so I think it could go at least 2 days of racing without charging. I just charge it after every day just to make sure. I also always open the box and unplug the battery at the end of the day and when stored, just in case there’s a slight drain. 1 4s is all you need 15c or higher.

you honestly dont know what your missing with lipo power for your starter box.

Gel cells are weak and tend to die at the worst of times.
