Default RB S3 or S5

Im going to sell my xxx-t, and with the extra money (only want to spend about $160 so I can get some other parts/tires) I am going to get a new engine. This is going in the 8ightB RTR with jp-3 pipe. I seen some killer deals going on the rctech for sale/trade forums now. One is the RB S5 with 1/4 gallon on it. I know him pretty well so I know the engine was broken in correctly. $160

Next is the RB S5 with 1/2 gallon of 20% on it. The seller is asking $135 shipped for it. On that ad, he is also selling engines like the ws7, v-spec, and os speed, so I think he knows how to break in engines.

So out of those 2, what would you buy? I have my mind set on RB, for longetivity, ease of tuning, and power.

If you must buy a used engine, go with the one who's background you are familiar with.

Thats what ive been thinking. But a new RB S3 is $180, and he is selling it for $160. A new S5 is $230, and he is selling it for $135. WAit...were you talking about the seller or the engine?

Well you just made my point there. why buy that S3 in the first place? you can get the new L2g engine for $185. Definately not worth it to buy a used older model engine for only $25 less than the new version costs new.

About the S5, that would be worth it. as you said the S5 L2g sells for about $230-240. $135 is a good deal for 1/2 gallon old engine.

as for the engines in general, I have seen both run and actually own an S5 and definately reccomend the S5 over the S3. Don't get me wrong the S3 is a very good engine but the S5 dominates it in every catagory. The S3 is great for a small track but runs out out of power on a longer track. the S5 is a very good engine.

Yeah your definately gonna want the S5 on that track! I have no experience with that user but from how many engines he has and the wording he used I would say its a good bet he knows what he is doing.

I got a PM by the seller. His message:

"I only use O'Donnell fuel. It was broke in using the STEPHEN BESS method. Thanx -Craig"

This is the Stephen Bess method, http://www.johnnycoolguy.com/JCGR/ma..._break-in.html. So that is bascially the heat cycle method.
