Default K&W Big Bores?

Do any of you know what K&W big bore shocks are? Yes, I know they're "big bore shocks", but that's all I know. The reason I'm asking is I've looked at buying a buggy that has them on it but I don't know if they're any good. Anybody have any feedback on them? Thanks.

I don't know of any K&W shocks but I do know of KMW shocks. they are made by a small company(KMW) and are very nice shocks. they use silicone bronse pistons and shaft bushings instead of plastic. They are 15mm bore and are not threaded. good shocks.

KMW is no longer in business.

Oh really? I guess that can be expected with such a small company. None the less they made good shocks. Is there a K&W shock?

Thanks guys - I guess it might be hard getting replacement parts for them if the company is out of business.

they used common o-rings and shafts....but if you were smuck up a body or a cap...they you would be SOL...they also used a less desirable C-clips design to hold in the O-rings....imo a somewhat weak design. they pistons are By far the nicest part of the whole set-up...true works of art.

I have a set of KMW shocks on my Cen Matrix FRE. They are a nice upgrade and the brass pistons were beautifully machined and they function flawlessly.

I believe the owner and operator of KMW was ill and he had to close his shop. This was some time ago and I haven't heard any news since I was told he was ill.

Were they the big bores? Because I believe they only made the big bores in a non threaded design. I do believe they had threaded small bore shocks though.

Just to clear things up...

KMW was a small father/son operation that made VERY nice products.

Unfortunately Steve has had multiple back surgeries, so he's not able to stay on his feet all day in the shop any more. Hence, why he shut down. Though he is doing a bit better, I don't foresee him going back into business making rc parts.

IF anyone has a set of his shocks, I doubt they'll have any durability or wear issues for the life of the vehicle chassis they're on.

If anyone needs parts for a specific application you can contact me with your needs and I'll ask him if he has any parts available for your application. I know most of what he made was to-order and he didn't keep a lot of spares on hand.

What brand of springs work with these and also what preload collars? I got a set of these on a buggy I bought. The springs on them are black.

I"m sure any brand of spring will work, I used Jammin, Mugen and some RMV springs on the KMW shocks I had.

Also, if anyone is interested, I've got some of the brass spacers for the shocks, along with the above mentioned springs, retaining clips, shock ends and more that will work with not just the KMW shocks, but others as well.

Send me a pm .
