My first RC? Dont really recall. I had a bunch of toy grade ones when I was young. My first hobby grade RC was a used RTR Hyper 7 PBS. Used that one for my racing learning curve and never broke a thing or DNF'd. When I started to out perform the car I bought my 777WC and gave the H7 to my 1yr younger brother. His first time to the track with it he turned the chassis plate into a banana. Now its back at my place tore apart, hanging on the shop wall. That one was just as good. Your right, that was a BIG dropoff for a car like that. And the water, no problem. My favorite part was the little dyno type deal that spun the wheels and stroked the suspension. I think it was cooler than the car.

My first ever car was the Radio Shack Golden Arrow that we converted to be somewhat competitive putting foam tires and upgraded electronics.

The second car ever was a WIDE BODY TRC pan car.

And #3 was the graphite edition RC10 that I do still have and pull out and race every now and then. I am surprised that it will still hold its own in the 2wd buggy class against a lot of the new stuff out today.

My first was a kyosho double dare with 4 wheel drive with 4 wheel steering. It was a 3 speed with the resister speed control.

I painted the body on the outside.

Wow, I forgot about the Cox cars! I had a Cox van that would drive around in a pre-set path depending on which cam you put in it. Very cool. Also my first smell of nitro. Every time I smell nitro now, it takes me back to the van. My friend had a Sandblaster and that was even cooler - it had pull start!

Well no chance I would remember the exact brand and name of my first RC, but I remember at that time they were "turns in reverse" style The controller had two button, forward and reverse. Going forward they just went straight. There was a large rubber wheel underneath in a curved groove so that when you went in reverse the wheel would slide back and rotate, making the car turn to the left. So you could go straight or back and to the left only.. anyone else remember that?

First "real" RC was a Tamiya Hornet. Beat the heck out of that thing, never broke it. Upgraded to some bearings and felt like a superstar!

Then there was the Tamiya "Bruiser"..

The cool factor on this was it used a 3 channel radio, with a stick transmitter from airplanes. You have to cut out a "shift gate" from a template to put over the left stick, and the third channel was used to shift the transmission. There was 2wd, 4wd low, and 4wd high gears that you could shift from the transmitter. I think the truck weighed about 10 pounds but it was pretty cool for the time.
