Default Nitro car problems

Hi guys
Well my tamiya mighty ballista decided not to work normally.
It starts normally and cant exceed 1/4 throttle then stalls then its hard to start.
Then when its cool its easy to start but sometimes i can go past 1/4 throttle
So whats the problem?

You gave two really good clues to what is going on and you should remember them

1. engine stalls beyond 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 throttle
2. hard to start until cool.

Your high speed needle is set way too lean. back it out 3 turns from where you have it (1-turn out for each 1/4 from full throttle before the engine stumbles). Start here and richen the needle 1/4-turn at a time until it's running.

To the other end of the spectrum. If the engine spits fuel out the exhaust and will not run w/out the glow ignighter attached, you are too rich.

+1 your high speed needle is way too lean. Ritchen it up like chunk t said.

Or another possible problem is because you have been running it lean. The P/S are now shot and can't hold compression. If you can with the plug in turn the fly wheel over easily then it's probably shot. Even if your getting some compression resistance is more likely because its cold and everything is tight. When it warms up it the sleeve expands and it dies again. Making it difficult to start until it cools. Even when you get it started it dies out quickly because its way warn and does not take much heat for it expand beyond the limits of a good seal.

This does not mean that that's whats wrong however it's another possibility. How old is the engine in gallons through?

Vlad,

Good point. If the needle IS correct a loose back plate or blow-bye on the P/S can generate similar irratic running habbits.
