What do you lot do with your old used up or broken nitro engines? Some aren't worth rebuilding. Do just toss them in the recycle bin or trash? I can't really think of anything to do with them other than just toss them. Seems like shame since the aluminum head on them is a nice looking piece.

Ebay is your friend. A couple times I've listed 3 or 4 engines that are worn out and I don't want to rebuild them/or not worth rebuilding. Advertise them as "Parts Engines" and start the bidding at .01. Get a little $$$ back.
Or just keep the carbs if they're still in decent shape and leak free. Toss the rest.

If you really want to learn about engine rebuilding & tuning... those old engines are a gold mine. It's how I started learning the black art of tuning. They are great for practicing swapping bearings, con-rods & pulling sleeves. Old heads are worth hanging on to because MFG'rs have a habit of changing their shapes & volumes over the years as a way to get "improved" performance. So you can end up with a nice assortment of heads with different sized squish areas and volumes.
If you really want to junk them.... e-bay, craig's list or donate them to a friend.

I keep them or sell them with a buggy that i no longer want and state the motor needs a rebuild.
Funny i always find it easy to sell a bug with motor and pipe than as just a roller. I havent gone through that many motors over the last 3 yrs i think im on my third and still is strong..
My mate throws in a box that he calls the grave yard and has heaps ..
He raids them now and again for parts. Mostly v specs.

The best thing to do with any old worn out engine, doesn't matter what size or brand, is send them to me.
I keep lotsa engines for spares. Buttons, shims, back plates, bearings, carbs, heads, you never know what will fit on what engine if you don't have parts. I like to put diff. heads on diff engines too so it's nice to have a stash of em.

if you can find enough engines of the same type, you can build a just about serviceable engine out of parts. I know of a guy who has a repinching machine, and have used him myself. He gets a really good finish on them too (comes back like new), and apparently the engine is still going strong with the new owner.
I did my work experience at traxxas, but didn't have the guts to ask for the big box of dead engines to try this out! annoyed too, because I might have a few spare engines if I did.

Take it all apart, super clean it, and part it out. Really nice having spare parts when you (or a friend) needs one......

I grind mine up and use them for a cheap and effective additive for my potting soil.

I have a box I put all my old rc stuff and save. Never know when you might need it.
