Pull Start To Roto Start Convrersion Parts
 

Hey all

Can anyone provide a link or part number to replace the pull start in a Picco and Hyper 7. I am assuming its a quick conversion or does it require multiple parts to convert.

To convert just takes the appropriate backplate unit, a shaft, and a cordless drill (or a handheld rotostart unit).

Here's the rotostart backplate assembly for the Picco engine. It's outa stock at Amain, but you can use the OFNA PN (OFN50006) anywhere.

This is your best option. Dump the roto/pull start stuff entirely. Unfortunately, I don't know if it will work with your Losi. There are Losi specific starter boxes.

Before you do this, let me tell you from experience that roto-starts suck almost as much as pullstarts. You will be replacing the one way bearing and the shaft every gallon of fuel, and they are like 40$ for the two pieces. The backplate for the roto-starts break off, and you have to buy new ones. the roto-start units are either too powerful, or too week. The batteries last about 10 minutes. IT WAS A FREAKING NIGHTMARE!! not to mention that your engine will get better milage, make more power, higher RPM's, and lasts longer with a bumpstart backplate...Invest in the starter box, you will thank me in the long run, and you will save a fortune!!

I have to agree. I have my Losi Roto-Start and it was nothing but problems from the beginning. If the engine is warm and you start to start it, expect to sit there trying to get the one way bearing to catch and eventually get the engine going. Have a few extra batteries charged and ready to go.

I am with you guys. Lol this happens to me eveytime I run out of gas. I am going to have to wait though. I have been in this hobby for 1 month and have spent over $1000.00 already. Gonna have to wait.

Why not just get rid of all that stuff and get a starter box?

Because I will have to buy two starter boxes. One for a losi 8 and one for a hyper 7. Unless they make one that fits both?

First off if you have to wait, then just put the pull starts back on, dont buy the roto for the hyper 7. Second you can get a starter box to work with both, as long as you leave the top pegs off the box. It's a little trickier but here's how you do it. you get two matal L-brackets, and you screw then down in the opening of the starter wheel to act as guides into the opening in the chassis for both buggies. It dont matter what the configuration of the chassis is like, because the guides insert into the flywheel opening of both buggies. It will hold your chassis in place to use 1 box for both buggies.

Just so you know you can buy used starter boxes for like $25...they still work, and cheeper than all the crap you have to buy for roto- conversion
