Default OFNA Hyper 7 Black RTR Your Opinion ?

Looking to get my 2 boys ages 13 and 11 one of these each? I figure being OFNA can't be too bad with decent parts support. A online vendor has them on sale right now for $269 each. If they do race them it'll be only at the club level.

A couple at our local track have them and they seem to be ok. I would make sure your lhs carries the parts to make it easier on you. Also make sure you get different frequencies for the two of them so they can run together. i think it would be a good choice to get them started since its all about having fun. Good Luck

I bought one last year for my first season of racing and I love it. With a few minor mods its a very capable club racer. My advice is if your kids are going to do ANY racing or hardcore bashing w/ them, upgrade the steering servo ASAP.

Thanks guy. Oh they'll get upgrades but have to work their asses off for it. I told them as long as they maintain it I'll provide entry, fuel and accidental parts but the chores have to be done which aren't much. Can't wait for the season to start but under a couple feet of snow.

I have a hyper 7. Great car. Yeah, you really need a new steering servo. The first day my friend took his to the track it broke. As far as upgrades I have, I have a throttle and steering servo, wheels and tires, and I upgraded the radio because the stock is just horrible. Also I got a rx pack to prevent loose batteries and so I can just charge it easy. Car is very tough.

I agree. I owned 3 of them over a 4 year period. They are awesome RTR racers, and with just a few upgrades they will perform with the top buggies out there. here is a short list of must do upgrades:

Buy a new stearing sevo, at least 100OZ. inch
Switch the stock stearing servo to the throttle
Use rechargeable sick, or hump packs 6 volt, they make the servos more powerful, and faster
Track tires ( ask the track guys which ones)

I would eventually upgrade the shocks and Engine also, but no rush on those, as well as the radio and reciever, buy the cheep specktum, its only $100

You will be proud. I went with the Hyper 7 Black over the Picco. I cant wait to get my boy into this. He was like I want my buggy now I cant wait. I think this had to do with the hop ups I put on my losi 8 B last night.

I bought a Hyper 7 PBS RTR a few weeks ago and have put at least four hours on it so far - haven't busted a single thing. I can't say the same for my other cars (Baja 5B and Rustler electric). The Hyper is VERY tough and durable. I haven't raced it yet but I'm very happy with the handling and performance.

The above posters are correct, though - I would swap out the steering servo and go to a 6v receiver pack before you ever run them. The stock servo (or even another one) on 4.8v will barely turn when standing still. I also swapped out my pull start system for a bump box. The pull starts break just about immediately, and mine caused a major air leak. I installed a regular back plate for $9 and have had no more problems.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. I have a buddy that bought the hyper 7 black and can't even get it to run for more than 15 seconds! That carb seems to be a piece of junk.

Honestly.. If there was part support for the hyper 7 at the hobby shop I think i'd buy a hyper 7 and run that... I have no idea why but I just love the look of the cars.
