How to charge a 12v lead acid
Im using a Thunder Power 610C to charge a 12v lead acid starter box battery
How many amps should I charge the battery with? |
I charge mine @ 12v 600mA.

i have a wall plug in type charger for mine and it has an output of 150 mah. im sure it can handle more but i can't change the output of mine. plus a slow charge will give you longer life. it takes about 5 to 6 hours to charge mine from dead.

The wall charger mine came with (Hobbico) charges at 600ma as well. My Hyperion 0610iNet charger will let you charge Pb at any rate to the charger's max of 10amps.
Starter box batts are intended to be trickle charged though and typical trickle charge rates are 1amp for motorcycle sized batteries and 2amps for car batteries. I have an expensive 1:1 charger and these are the trickle rates you're allowed by this charger. I use a float style charger for my gel cell and it uses a 750ma charge rate and then goes into maintenance mode, so I'd advise charging at between 600-750ma and not more than 1amp. |
If you wanna go the cheap route or cant wait to get a charger shipped to you energizer makes a charger that charges their Ni-Mh rechargeable batteries.
The powersupply thing that goes to the wall and hooks up to the charger charges at exactly 12V/ 600Ma as needed to charge that type of battery. I think its like $15 I had one left over since I bought a battery pack for my transmiter and didnt need the charger or the AA's no more so I cut of the plug and soldered on two alligator clips to clip on to the 12V battery terminals. Thank you that is all. |
