You can learn a lot here, but your hobby shop should be happy to help you also. If you get into RC and like it, that's the place you'll go for spare parts and to upgrade engines, servos, radios, etc.

Go with the Losi RTR, its probally the best RTR.

Are there any tracks in your area. It nice to see what works there and its a safe bet you'll find someone that can help tune your motor if you need advice. Local hobby shops rarely have the time/skill to help tune anything. (Want to test that: Ask them for an Xray, they'll be sure to point you to the nearest hospital.)

The only thing I usually learn at the shop is the "Door chime warranty".

Nice, if you were going to jump in a time machine and buy something to race last year. Not knocking losi, but things change every year and one season's success usually doesn't equate to the next year's dominance, and it's hard to equate what team drivers use to success for a new guy on the club level.

"A recap of the titles that belong to Losi for 2008 make a huge statement to the Offroad community. Team Losi drivers were able to grab many championships throughout the World and the US. Big thanks go out to all Team Losi drivers who do battle on a weekly basis to showcase their talent and put the Losi products to the test. Week in and week out, the titles just keep adding up. Some of the advice is hilarious. Every assumes that every newb should buy an MP9 or an Xray.

Buy a Traxxas or some other RTR, drive the piss out of it for a while, if you like it, upgrade. When you've got little to no skills getting around a track is good to learn with a beater. If you have a local track with Slash racing then that's where to start. Slash racing is good fun, for newbs and the experienced and is by far the cheapest form of racing. If I was completely new I'd bypass nitro all together and just go electric, especially now that electric 1/8 scale class are spreading rapidly.
