TEX, I don't mean to bash you here, but how reliable is this information? I only ask because i've been looking for a 2050 for a while now and if the Losi is an exact copy then i need look no further!

The Losi RE-11 and the O.S. 2050 look alike because
they both have the dbl welds in the center of the pipe.
We won't know if they are truly equal until one of the
engine modders does a heads up comparison on a dyno.

Thumbs up It was a little work....

The shop I run for gets new pipes in all the time. I try and test every one of them and keep them so customers know what works and what does not before they make a purchase.

I too saw the double welds. They I used a little thought and questioned if Losi had done what I thought they had done. Very popular pipe discontinued?? I would have cloned it too.

With my 2050 sitting on the table.
I first measured the entry convergence cone. Perfect match.
I then probed the positive convergence cone. With a probe the measurements were a perfect match.
I could not measure the third chamber without cutting the pipe.
I measured through the cones holes and got a perfect match for the front of the pipe's inner walls. Perfect match.
Stinger ID matched.
Water displacement volume was the same as well.

I put it on a properly tuned Vspec in my car and just switched pipes. Not headers... OS sold the 2050 with two different headers so I used the same header for both to get the pipe comparison.

No change in tune... run temp within 2 degrees... exact same run time of 11.5minutes.

I would say it is pretty close but with better finish and damn good price to boot.

Without a Dyno this is the best I can do and share. I would like to see it on a dyno though.

Hope this helps,
TEX

Thanks TEX,
I was hoping that you may have been curious enough to have done some kind of testing to compare the two.... Looks like i may be buying my first losi product very shortly

+1 on the losi pipe matching the 2050. A local racer cut opened the losi pipe and it looked to be the same. A micrometer was never used, but they appeared very similar.

Thumbs up Glad it could help....

Now I wish they would do the 2060. $160+ for a pipe is just out of the question.

A pipe I would like to study is the JP-6. These guys don't provide for what type of motor these pipes would work best on. RPM - Tourque - Fuel Milage or driving characteristics. Come on OFNA....get on the ball!

I agree that matching the pipe to the engine is the main key.

For years I raced sprint/dirt and enduro go karts. The basic piston valve Yahama, TKM or Comet engines. My engine builder would match the engine blueprint (mod) to the type of racing that it would be doing. Along that lines we would adjust the pipe to match. We would then adjust the header (length and shape) to the weather and altitude (ie barametric pressure, tempurature and humidity). I know we are not that exact in RC racing yet, but we are heading that way.

educated trial and error can still be the best method.

Not to state the obvious, large open track-rpm motor and pipe; tight twisty-bottom end motor and pipe.

However, realize I suck at RC racing. (but I love it!)

Red face Not real sure yet.

The RE-10 looks like it is more akin to the JP-1 tourque pipe but it acts different. I'm thinking 3 chamber maybe?? Don't know for sure. It does moake alot of bottom and uses up the fuel.

I'm no expert but I've always been told RB's run best with RB Pipes, but when I ran a S5 I always ran a 2050
