I have been running mugen/ofna 3 shoe clutches. To be honest on our blown out track I do not notice small changes in clutch setups.

That said, the aluminum shoes (.9 spring in buggy/1.0 in truggy) wear really bad. They are mushroomed after each day and need to be scraped and sanded back to shape. After about 6 race days they need to be replaced.

I thought I found the answer with the dynamite max life shoes. They have not been showing any wear for the last 3 race days. Unfortunately they are working serious grooves in the clutch bell and I can see that will be needing to be replaced soon.

Am I missing something? This is a bit pricy for such an expendable part

I run the aluminum shoes too(blue OFNA and the gold springs)... They mushroom but they last several race days before I have to file off anything.

I can't say for sure what the total life of them is, I can confidently say I've gotten 2 gallons easily on a set(though I replace the springs more often as I figure the heat weakens them).

With the Dynamite shoes grooving your clutch bell... With the amount of friction there, SOMETHING is going to wear. You have to decide if you want it to be the shoes or the bell... I don't know if you can get a hardened clutch bell and if that would help the situation or not.

The Jammin silver and red shoes last pretty long. I use them for about 5 races or till they wear down to the spring. I use the gold 1.1 for truggy. With an aluminum clutch setup you can expect wear on the clutchbell. Just a reminder but dont use carbon shoes with a clutchbell that has already been used with aluminum shoes.

The Hyper 8.5 clutch is hands down the best I've used. Been running this since spring and I've barely even touched it for maintenance. The shoes get a very light edge after a few races then you can take off with a fingernail even. I like the way the springs are away from the contact surface as well.

Thanks, that Ofna clutch looks like a better set up.

I did just think of something....I blip the throttle constantly in the corners keeping up speed and testing traction as soon as it hooks I give it it more throttle. (probably an old electric trait)

I am kind of thinking my driving has been to blame for the clutches - not that I plan to change though.

I don't think so, I'm pretty hard on my throttle too. I used Mugen shoes before and they didn't last at all. they aren't cheap either!

when i ran an ofna i used the red shoes.. they were awesome with the gold springs and they held up well.. I have a set that was used for one tank if anyone is interested.. i no longer run ofna so i have no need for them.. i will even throw in a used flywheel and clutch bell that still has some life in it.. Yes, you can run Ofna Jammin clutch shoes,springs and clutch bells on a Mugen.

Is there any advantage to the Jammin over the Mugen? Do the vented clutch bells make any difference as far as heat?

I have tried the aluminum and went right back to the black carbon OFNA shoes part # OFN10010. I leave them in for the whole season (10 gallons) with the only maintenance being sanding of the clutch bell whenever I replace the bearings to combat glazing.

It did as far as my 4.6SS Savage was concerned - stock bell was getting hot enough that after shutting it off, it would melt the spur where is was in contact with the pinion on the CB. Vented Ofna CB made that stop.

losi lst 3 shoe clutch is the the best setup you can run the clutch setup in the buggy and truggy the price is 18.00 for the setup
