Default .21 engine question

If you front bearing is a little wet - and you can tell that the wetness is coming from oil on the inside - does that mean the bearing needs to be replaced?

it could be.. not sure. I wouldn't think that after only 3 tanks it would be leaking.... I had an RB front bearing go bad before the 1 gallon mark... but not 3 tanks

it's not uncommon to see the OS leak fuel from the front, they are so fat during breakin this is when it seems to happen the most, i would continiue to run it in, unless you think the front bearing you replaced may not be seated all the way. when you start to lean the motor out the leak 8 times out of 10 goes away and last for several gallons, this is what i have seen out of alot of v specs, good luck

The front bearing on my Nova weeps a bit too and it's normal, especially if you run it rich. If you want to be safe, remove the bearing from the case, clean it, re-lube it and see if it feels gritty or notchy. If it still turns smoothly, just put 'er back in. If not, replace.

Stuart,

I'd do a pressure check on the bearing.

To do a simple blow check, the back plate & plug must be installed and the carb removed. Turn the crank so the induction port is open and blow forcefully into the carb opening. Look, listen & feel for any signs of pressure loss. A leaky bearing will be pretty evident.

A little oil loss though a bearing isn't bad, you know it's getting a good lubing .

+1.... I have seen two or three of these leak for a bit, then quit. Both of my speeds leaked some when new and I saw another guy's do it. Run it a little more and monitor it.

I had a rb c6 bbt leak during break in and for the first 1/2 gallon or so. I contacted rb and they said it impossible to seal the front bearing totaly. as i race tuned it for max power the leak went away for the most part.
