Tuning WS7 lll Advise
Hello everyone I'm new to the forums and I'm posting my very first question.
My question is for those that are running a RB what are your temps, at factory setting 3.5 out on HSN and 5 out on LSN, my temps will go upwards of 260, where are the people saying that there motors are running STRONG at 220 and below? Or maybe i should go 4 turns out on the HSN to start with instead of 3.5, at 3.5 out there is good smoke and the car feels very light got good punch and the Top is scary sick...the car idles like a dream i got about 7 gallons through it new conrod at 3 gallons and has good pinch..Oh and im running an odonnel red(med-hot) glowplug, i do have an Rb #6 plug for a sp are running 30% (50 degree weather Texas for the Lost). If u Run a different Brand motor like OS etc and running hot than others let me know... THX

I have a WS7 III as a practice motor, and it likes to run (With a good tune) around 250-270. I don't tune via temps, but performance, sound & smoke. As long as there a light smoke trail throughout the entire power ban, let the temps fall where they will.
I'm not sure of the needles setting on this motor. But I'm sure a RB fan will know..

Oh cool, thx for the reply, Hmm I've been steadly trying to richen it up to get the temps down to the 230-240 range, i have not even leaned it out so i guess there is untaped power still, because i have a pretty heavy smoke trail on the Straight away...

i run mine at 250-270 and screams like hell with rb6 plug.. around 220 i lose to much power.

jp pipes can push temp up on rbs. on my 3 port w/jp3 it runs hot 250-260 and is a fuel hog. with my s5 w/turbo plug fresh, right over 1 gallon w/086&short header mine dont budge over 220 and runs great.

I have that engine as well as other RB's first. I find RB's like a slightly rich bottom. 2nd I run mine at 230-240 I get great power. 3 RB's do not like JP pipes just say no. Ask Rody himself on the RB USA site. You will notice a definite drop in temps if you change from a JP to say the 2045. As far as needle turns your engine is as different as fingerprints no 2 engines are exactly the same. Tune your engine (needle turns) to best suit the engine and the driver. 3rd I never like 260 its to close to 280 and 300. It only takes a slight changes in the weather, fuel, track conditions, CB or C shoes or engine alingment to make an engine running 260 to start running 280 290.

You may need to check your temp gun. My rb with jp 1 runs around 220 and is very fast.

+1...on nova&rbs jp1 and jp2 work but usually run o touch hot..might be the way they were broke in? i just know my 1st nova 21 w/same tune within minutes i switched from jp1 running 240 to jp3 and jumped to 260+ and i lost a minute runtime.

Well thx for all that info, the only pipes i have at this this time is a JP1 and Ofna 086 pipe, im straped for cash at the moment but next time i well invest in the RB 2045/192 header (is that the right combo)..if i start my tunning at 4 turns out on the HSN my temps are like 200 and sluggish, ill need to most likly have to attempt a new tune at 4 turns out and 1hr increments...Is it normal to have to Rich-in it up from factory settings? Oh and one more thing could i change around the headers the ofna header is more staight and the JP1 is more of a ROUND header, not sure if it would make any difference..

as for the your car and the temps just tune it for power and smoke the temp should fall in a good range also check this out man it may help a little bit
