That is an OFNA .053 pipe. It is a clone of the old Nova pipes that established the .053 standard.
It is a mid to top pipe that makes great horsepower but is not that great on fuel. It is two chamber.
RTR type engines and low end racers typically run real well with these pipes.
It is a keeper.

Ill be running either a mugen jx21, or an OS v-spec. would this pipe be even worth my time for either engine?

That will make tons of power but will kill your run time on those engines.
The old Mugen MSR 1005, OS 2060 or OS 2050 would be best suited for those engines.
I have been having very good reports for the new Losi RE-11 pipe that looks to be a (improved) clone of the OS 2050. At $65 this is the pipe I would buy.

Another good choice is the Associated Factory team 2035 and they can be had for like $50 and their counterpart Thunder tiger makes their own version thats even cheaper.

????? an 053 pipe kills runtime ??? i think you are talking about the 086 pipes bro . an 053 pipe with a short header is THE runtime combo as well as a bookoo bottom end with a smooth pull . i have done alot of testing and can tell you this for fact
happy motorin',

thank you for posting correct information!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an 053 pipe

the 053 pipe is a low end type pipe and gives great fuel mileage. This will probably work pretty well with those engines. I have used this pipe with os engines in the past with good results. 086 pipes on os motors are no good.

Wink

Come on Monty....
This might be the combo for Novas and RBs but for OS VSpec type engines?? No I'm not talking 086 pipes.
053s are two chambers. The OS engines notoriously make stupid power with these pipes. However, I can consistantly show you 9 minute run times where with the other pipes listed (which are 3 chamber pipes and recommended by OS) minimize wheel spin and make 10 to 11 minute run times.
The other pipes that are in this catagory are the EB Mods pipe, Associated and JP-4 or JP-6. I don't know much about these pipes but I have seen them on top driver's cars running 10 minute sessions.
I would like to know about the new JP-6.

cool, good to know guys.
I think ill pick up a shorty header and run this to start with, then get something else for some different options.
ive run electric for over 11 years, but im still learning about nitro.

i would imagine a pipe combo still has the same characteristics no matter what engine it is run on but .................. i do tune os engines every so often and have found that they do work best with jp-1 or os 2050 w/short header . just an observation from a tuners perspective

Def. an 053 type pipe...looks alot like the OCM Redline pipe....which can easily yield 10+ min. runtimes with an IDRC 6mm insert on Nova style engines.

086 will make a little more runtime.

is it different in other parts of the country ???? the 053 uses way less fuel than an 086 combo in this part of the country however the 086 pipes provide a smoother bottom end with a harder hitting powerband effect and extreme topend !!!!!
