Here is the cool part with the vg, It one of the few with a 2yr warrenty. OS rebuilt mine twice for free. And yes I got about 2 gallons each time, before I sent it back and OS replaced the Piston and sleeve and rear bearing.

You're lucky. They wouldn't do a damn thing for me. And I asked nicely. The best offer I ever got is that I could send it in and if their repair estimate was not warranty related (which the guy on e-mail said it most likely wouldn't be) that I could tell them to do nothing to it and then I could pay $14 or $21 or something outrageous like that to have it shipped back to me the way I sent it in
Otherwise they would keep it or I'd have to pay their labor rate to do something that I can do. Let's see $20+ to do nothing or a $100+ probably repair build. Guess it's a paperweight. I've been looking every week to find used parts to fix it under $20 because I would not put any more than that into it to have an OK beater engine laying around.

They told me the same thing each time, and I only paid 8-10 to ship it there. They did not charge me to ship back or anything.

So you sent it in not knowing if it would be fixed or not?

In your case did you send in a worn out engine that wouldn't run very good and they sent you back an engine with a new piston/sleeve/bearing?

What did you discuss ahead of time?

I'd be tempted to send mine in because I think I've got until May for my two years. The rest of it I know I can't sell becuase the working ones are not even selling. And I've given up on finding used parts. So if they take it from me and won't fix it I have to decide if I really care at this point.

Maybe you could breifly tell me how it went. Don't have to type a book

You can tell them to contact you before anything is done.

Mine looked great on the outside, but it had no compression. My starter box spun it so fast it sounded like it was running.

It turns out my VG is still alive, the head bolts came loose making it run erratic. It doesn't have a mechanical pinch whatsoever but it still has good compression. I was expecting to see metal flaking or something when I opened it up but it looked perfect. So, what exactly goes bad on these VG's when they quit running? Anyone open them up and see what happened?

The RG has an ABC sleeve instead of ABL for the VG. This is why the VG doesn't get the lifespan. The RG is argueably one of the best low budget engines ever made.

Obviously, it's not just the small group of people posting on this thread that don't get many gallons on their VG, I've read this several times on different threads. The only common denominator I've found (this is just what I've read I don't know it to be 100% fact) is to not run a VG too hot. Keep it around 200. Apparently the ABL sleeve doesn't take the heat as well as an ABC.

Each time I sent mine in it was a rear bearing and Piston& Sleeve. It was repaired for free under warenty each time.

Did you look at the sleeve before you sent it in? Were there signs of wear or did it just loose all pinch and compression?
