the heavier cars I feel like are OCM, Odonnell, Old Kyosho, Mugen mbx-5, sx8/nanda, etc...

Cars based on that platform. The weight with these newer cars is saved in the drivetain, bearings, diffs, chassis, etcc.....

That's actually VERY light considering the fact that the MP9 is awash in aluminium parts, whereas my XRAY makes considerable use of plastic and carbon-fiber and is only an ounce lighter.

I posted this yesterday in the X-Ray 808 thread.

Just thought i would post the weight of my 808 as i have seen postings around stating that they're under the 3.2kg minimum out of the box.

I don't know how those cars were weighed but mine was done on scales at work that are accurate to two decimal places.

Parts unique to my car are the Ninja JX21 B01, Futaba S9351 servos (x2), Spektrum DX3R reciever, AMB transponder and 1600Mah stick NiMh battery. Obviously things like plastic gear servos will be lighter and smaller batteries and different engines are possibly going to be lighter.

As you can see there is a difference in wheel and tyre combinations. Grp tyres are premounts on GRP rims and ProLine tyres are on Associated rims. All are brand new.

I also weighed a bald Crime Fighter tyre on Wabash rim and it was only 1gm lighter than the Bow Tie on AE rim!

X-Ray 808 2846.14gm
GRP Atomic 505.34 = 3351.48 Heaviest
GRP Grip 435.38 = 3281.52 Lightest
ProLine Bow Tie 471.86 = 3318.00
ProLine Crime Fighter 483.96 = 3330.1

What do everyones 808's weigh and what do the competition weigh? Mugan, HB D8, Associated, etc, etc??

Cheers,

Dazza

We must be running the same setup. My 808 weights 3324kg minus fuel.

My 808 is weighing in at 3240 grams with my setup. The 808 is currently the lightest out of the box buggy, but with all the pipe, motor, tire combos it will vary. I think the Hyper 9 will be even closer to 3200 grams, could take the weight ticket. We will see....

My MBX6 weighs in at 7.3oz, but of course it does have some aftermarket lightened parts.

I'm pretty surprised too after the built. But what the heck, as we all know, it wasn't the lightest buggy that won the 2008 Worlds.

It's nice to have such forums for discussions.
