Default RC8 Shock Towers

Well guys, I survived the long week of CRCRC and had a great time.

We had a chance to test the prototype RC8 shock towers that Sumo Racing is working on and I can tell you that so far they have worked excellent! I first ran a practice with the stock shock towers and then put the Sumo Racing shock towers on the same car by using the most outwards holes on the towers. First off, the fit was excellent and they have been machined very well. The clearance for the big bore shocks was no longer an issue, as they were designed around the BB shocks. When running the RC8 with the Sumo Racing shock towers I immediate noticed a big difference in handling. Where the stock shock towers felt a little loose, the Sumo Racing shocks towers made the car feel like it was on rails. The initial plan is to only run the prototype shock towers in practice, but after being so pleased with the results we ran them during the races as well. The prototypes were made out of 6061 alloy and that might cause some fear of bending, but so far they have held up well, and believe me, I put them through a punishment on the very technical CRCRC track! Sumo Racing is looking into alternative alloy options to reduce the chance of bending. I will have to check with the owner of Sumo Racing (Terry Jonas) on the general availability of the new shock towers, but I would think they would be available in the next few months, before the outdoor season starts. The cost would also be significant less than any of the other after market companies, but exact pricing has not been established, as the alloy type is still up for discussion.

the 8 2.0 and 1.0 are only longer between the rear clip and the center diff, so yes, they would be interchangeable.

I have use some skid plate but when my car hit nose first the dirts gets in the skid plate and it curls out. Does these fit so close that no dirt will get in?? I have an Xb808..

Thanks

Yes to your question. They do fit tight and they are stronger than resin. I have not heard of this problem with my skids yet. I have heard of that with the plastic resins. I have also seen some of the newer style that are a bumper/skid that break and fail prematurely. Hope that helps. I do have them for the Xray XB808. Terry - Sumo Racing
