i have an rc10gt with the original engine it has preformed well for me over the years and gallons but it has suddenly accepted a much leaner tune and has been screamer since. does this mean it is about to go kaput?

no, it runs like a bat out of hell the whole tank, i forgot to add it has plenty of smoke all the time and it is running hotter 280 instead of 260, average.

well running @280 will make it last not so long...i try to have mine come off the track no higher than 240 but if it's not flaming and it idles well and runs fine though Im no expert seems like it's not gonna go out on you...

Just keep tuning for optimum performance, you may need to start adding 2 washers to the glow plug to stop the piston from hitting it. You can check your engine, just by taking off the cooling head, and turning the flywheel. If your piston comes all the way to the top of the sleeve it is shot, but since you have had it for years, and many gallons through it, just keep tuning and running until it wont stay running anymore.

Here's where I prove I march to a different drummer.

If the engine still screams I'd advise against lifting the head. Once the bolts are loosened the sleeve will have a chance to relax. What do I mean by relax... part of breaking in an engine is heat cycling; the brass sleeve, Al block, Al or brass piston all take on a mild annealing through this process. Once you lift the head all of these components WILL shift slightly and the "honey-moon" fit you've created initially, is lost......

Just my 2-cents.. so, I recommend running it until it's dead. Then consider rebuilding.

Ok, there are a couple of different things possible. First, you may have developed an air leak. That would make it want to run lean and hotter.

Second, things could be wearing out. Bearings, Rod, Crank etc could be getting slopping. This could also lead to hotter and leaner running.

Run the thing and have fun. Just start saving for a new engine. You can pick up a decent .12 quite economically.
