Mine works fine with a 12 volt gel cell. $20, lasts about 6 months. Heavy as hell though

I rock the 12v Gel Cell too...I have been using the same battery for about 2 years now. I charge it every week to be sure, but it would probably last a couple weekends without recharging. I use the $15 wall charger and charge it overnight before a race.

It is pretty heavy, but once I get to the track my box doesn't move all day so I don't really mind the weight. To me it's not worth it to spend the money for a Lipo and charger...I'd rather spend the money on a new set of tires or something else that will make me faster on the track.

i'd stay away from the gel-cell, as we know it is heavy, but if you don't keep it cycled pretty often then it will go dead and the wall charger will over charge it and over heat it . Im going to be using 4200 packs but anything will work. LIPO ARE TOOOO EXPENSIVE FOR JUST FOR STARTER BOXES or im just cheap...probably

put a lipo in there and you won't have to charge it for over a month. you have to bring too much to the track for nitro, might as well simplify your life as much as possible.

I just put it in Nimh mode , the battery is 7AH , so set at 7000mah , and at 2 amps . Works great and never a problem . I`m sure someone will chime in that I shouldn`t use in nimh mode , but it works .

I use a Field charger, with alligator clips, I charge at 1 amp, leave it on all night. When it peaks my charger switches to trickle. Gel Cells do not need discharging, but it is good to run em down as far as possible before you recharge.

unless you travel via plane a lot then just go with this one:

http://www.carolinasrc.com/Webstore/...idproduct=2002

Normal life span is a long time. I have had mine well over a season and use it as a "workhorse" at home. Since I travel a lot I have a losi box to help with weight on the planes.

I have never cycled mine or anyone I have ever had for that matter just used it and charged it. Not saying that it's wrong to do, just have not felt the need to do it personally.

Ice doesn't have a lead setting, but you could do teh same thing Briguy was doing - tell it NiMH and charge it anyway. The wall plug in charger than came with my 1st box was a 600ma trickle. The are supposed to be trickle charged so they will last a while in the field. Overnite with teh wall charger was always good for mine.

My prob was forgetting to hook it up and after getting ready to leave to go run somewhere and realizing I forgot it again, I bought a float style charger. Mine stay plugged in all the time and its made the cells last longer too.
