LRP .28 Spec 3

I recently purchased what I thought was an LRP .28 Spec 3 off ebay and now I'm not too sure. The cooling head says .28 Spec 3 but on the side of the engine block are the letters "XTEC".

From pictures I've seen on hobby sites, the .28 has the letters "VTEC" on the side. Is there a difference? I think this guy sold me a .21 with a Spec 3 cooling head.

My understanding is all LRP nitro engines now have XTEC and not VTEC on the crankcase. My Spec 3 Truggy certainly does

OK, just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the reply.

Is there anyway to tell the difference between a .28 and a .21 by looking at them?

Yes you can tell the .21 apart from the .28 pretty easily. The crankcases are totally different. The .21 is actually the same as a new picco .21 engine. Here is the new lrp/picco at amain:

I bought my truggy used and it had XTM on the side of mine, I saw that and decided not to run it.

Why not? Probably the same engine. LRP, XTM, Mach, SH, and Sportwerks all come from the same engine mfr. Depending on the LRP .28, it's the same as the XTM 457. If the LRP is an 8 port then it would be the same as the SH .28 Spec engine. The XTM 457 just happens to be a 6 port version.
