And stretched rods or loose bearings but sounds like this could be a tuning or plug problem.

What does it mean if the engine backfires?

I've had some trouble with P3s lately. They say they're fine but they run horrendously. When I swap in the new one it's all better....for a while.

Thanks guys for the list of problems.

I was at the track today and my buggy was running fine. No issues with tuning or plug.

Just noticed one thing today. When I am the air, the engine revs a lot when the buggy is in air. Is it a sign that the fuel is getting over? Just curious.

Hey Porkchop,

Are you talking about the Throttle Stop Screw or the Metering Needle with regards to tuning on low end or idle to high as per the OS Speed manual? I hope I am making sense here.

Anytime an engine backfires.. It's timing. Usualy caused by a bad plug, or debris in the engine.

Check that there is no air or fuel leaks, carb, carb boot, f/bearing, ect...
if all is ok, and the needles are set to my above settings, then backout the LSN 1/4 turn.

Hey Joe,

There was no tuning or over revving issues with my Speed for the first tank. Then the engine started over revving during jumps most of the time on the second tank.

When the engine was on idle, the sound wasn't' coming down. It was loud. Should I set the THROTTLE STOP SCREW which is the smallest screw on the engine and also richen the LSN?

Yes... The THROTTLE STOP SCREW your referring to is your idle adjustment.
With the car clean take off the Air filter, then take out the carb insert (red or blue velocity stack), then with your finger pushing the slide closed, look down the carb, and very slowly back out the idle adjustment screw just until you see the slide fully close, then go back in 1 full turn. now your idle is set. try that and lmk how it works out.

Have you checked your exhaust and pipe gaskets? Tank lid seal? Fuel lines? Head bolts? All can cause an air leak and create an issue like you described. The back fire can also be from over rich settings to compensate for the air leak which will dump a large volume of fuel in the engine at start up.
