What servo for 1/8th scale buggy
Hi,
Which servo should i go for my mbx6 for steering. I want something blazing fast, yet has enough torque. also, it would be great if it can handle lipo reciever packs directly!!!

If its blazing speed and lipo compatibility your looking for try and AE or Ace 1015. Its .10 200oz at 6.0v and can handle a lipo. It was like a servo on steriods when using a lipo pack unregulated.
I had to switch it out for something slower because it felt twitchy to me it was so fast. Now I am using Hitec 5955 servos. They arent as fast and that makes it easier for me to handle while using an unregulated lipo.

I implore you to run a regulator if you can. With LiPo the little light on the regulator may not be much but it will indicate your voltage is reaching a concerning level. Your servos will still get increased voltage as compaired to running NiMh packs. My much More and VXR regs put out a consistant 6.3V. The nice thing is it does this all the way through the packs charge. This keeps you driving the same through a long main. Your servos will thank you as well.
Without the regulator it will be harder on the servos when you hit something. They will be allowed to pull more amperage and more prone to burning up. As the battery's charge fades your servos will noticeably slow down. No matter how good you are, your car will feel different.
I like the Futaba BLS9451 for steering and throttle duties in my buggys. They seem durable and being brushless, I figure we shouldn't see fade in performance from motor degradation. I have heard good things about the Ace servos as well as the HiTechs.

you should really run a regulator witha lipo pack as described above. you gotta monitor the voltage on a lipo so u dont discharge it to much.

One question for you guys that I do not think was answered. Using a CastleCreation MMM, can I use the BEC on that with a separate lipo receiver pack or is that BEC only for the main 4s/5s lipo battery that will be used to power the motor? Note this will be an E-MBX6.

I am not familiar with the particular ESC, but if the speed control has BEC it will power Rx and Sx with out the need for a regulator if the BEC circuit is rated for 4.8 or 6 volts. WIth the high end digitals you will want a 6 volt BEC. any thing less and the BEC should be bipassed a regulator installed off your 4s to your Rx. This usually means cutting off the red wire on your throttle and feeding the power from the regulator. It's been a while and someone might have to correct me, but that's what I remember from heli's.
