jb weld is probably the easiest way to accomplish your goal. i would suggest doing something we used to do in our full scale 4 cylinder mod dirt cars when we had to run an oem differential. we would disassemble it and take the 2 larger spider gears out of the diff and clean all the oil off. then we would weld up one of the valleys between the teeth out smooth with the teeth. then skip two valleys and weld another one. do the same thing 180 degrees from that. we did both gears that way and put it all together with the smaller spider gears into the two empty valleys on either side. that way it was locked, but had a little play so it wasn't so hard on everything inside.

i think the same would work on an rc diff, but you should probably weld every 90 degrees since we use four small spiders......

The last thing you want to do is make the car a RWD, it will be undrivable and only do donuts.
How much for a center locker for my hyper 8.5?

I think the main gear box from an Ofna Monter Pirate would work. It is basically a steel shaft with the spur gear mount welded on. The ofna pirate was a 4x4 buggy which is the predecessor to the Hyper buggies. The moster pirate replaced the center diff with a live shaft on bearings. It is just a solid shaft on bearings with a drive cup at either end. Nitro house has them and they look like they run about $14.00 I have a ,monster pirate and a hyper 7 and it looks like this is what they did. It would work well. Then all you would have to do is take the drive shafts off your from CVD so the axle stubs would free wheel in the bearings. The bad thing is that you would only have brakes on your back wheels.

This is one of the simplest tuning tools you can use for oval racing. The Differential Spool insert replaces the spider gears in your center differential essentially making it a transfer case which sends full power to both the front and rear differentials full time.

$12 , not bad...
