Monty, got a couple of questions for you if you can help us out.
Ran my plus 4 in the RC8B today for about 12 tanks, have done the break in process using the heat gun/cycle method etc. for 5-6 tanks before taking it to the track has done a total of about 20-25 tanks now and its starting to run well, temps are dropping and power is rising as we take fuel out of it, i havent had it screaming yet and never really hold full throttle for more than a second or 2, i usually blip and roll the throttle it if i have to keep the momentum up, it has a little bit of pinch left with the plug out but its a lot easier to turn over now, is 20-25 tanks about right for it to drop its nuts? was driving along in the middle of the day and from the start of the tank to the end of the tank the engine sound changed, got a bit louder and a bit meaner sounding as well as the temp dropping, i assume this is the way these engines reach broken in stage? Have checked over all the exhaust seals etc. and all are perfect so its the engines note alone that has changed.
Very impressed with this engine so far, fuel mileage is good but not great but it is still a tad rich at the moment, but the power is awesome, even with the 6.5mm venturi it keeps up with the 1/8 electrics on the track, and blows the reedy`s away
Only other concern i have is the front bearing seems to feel a bit gritty, is this a common problem? Our tracks are a bit dusty at times but nothing to excessive, was a bit muddy today turning into a bit dusty as the track dried up, when i clean the engine i always cap it all off and spray lightly down with simple green, use a soft bristle brush to clean it and then spray it off with methylated spirits, and blow dry lightly with the air compressor then drop some pacer after run oil into it ( it isnt a filled crank ) , i dont think the would have forced water and grit into the front bearing? I clean it with the flywheel on to stop any direct contact with the bearing seal... If i have to replace them i will probably go TKO ceremics but it seems odd that it would get this way after such little use.
Sorry for the long post just wanted to cover all the bases.
