Once they swell the performance will drop off and they will take longer to charge.

I have just ditched my one that swelled and split the shrink wrap.

Another Q... Can you fully charge a lipo and let it sit for an extended time? I was told that it wasn't good for them?

Everything I've ever seen or read about them says they can be stored with a partial charge, but never should be stored fully charged.

+1

I have a couple that have swelled marginally, jsut a little, but still work just fine. Them i don't worry about. I've seen other people's that really puff up, and then the next time they try and charge them they ctch fire or the performance drops off tremendously or won't take a charge at all --- those are the ones IMO that need to be disposed of.

it was a ProTek lipo for my 3PK. I left the radio on and packed it up after practice last Wed. It has puffed up very little. I am going to try to charge it again.

if you left your transmitter on and it drained the battery dead or below 9.0v, that pack is done.
I had a reciever pack swell, but i always thought it was due to hard impacts with out proper cushioning.

Not necessarily true, if it was not dropped too far on voltage. I have brought them back by tricking the charger to think the battery was one cell less brought the voltage back up to the point it would charge again I think its 2.3 volts per cell. You have to monitor VERY CAREFULLY when doing this.
