Default Need help!!!broken screw on crankcase

Hello..

What kind of tool you guys use to pull out the broken hex screw on crank case? Right now the engine have 3 hex screws at the back plate. Is this gonna be a problem for airleak or just use sealent?

Thanks..

dont fully understand where or in what way the screw is stuck? any pics?

has the head just rounded of ir is it snapped of?

if just rounded you could cut a line in it and use flat head screw driver if broke could you not just remove other screws then use grips or somthing to remove whats left of the screw.

you must be strong lol

its the backplate i take it then could you not remove the 3 current screws and slide of the backplate cover as the backplate isnt actually threaded its the bracnkcase so you should be able to in theory slide of the backplate and then use grips to remove whats left of the screw.

if the above method does not work, you can try using a reverse drill bit...

Default Boaters posted this another sight

Water cools the heads in boat motors and if you don't use oil in there after they break off sometimes.
Seen posted several times to use sulfuric acid "....soak the block only...." will disolve steel screw not hurt aluminium.heard it takes three days. Do not use hydracloric type muric ect... You could soak some old alum rc part and a screw first to see if it's true.
Extreme precautions no kids ,,,google ect...

Of coarse FIRST I would soak it in kroil and try pencil toarch at the case screw area alum expands more then steel . Then use a drywall screw as a punch to chisel the screw carfully around at about 45% angle close to outside of the screw at any possible edge the break might of left me. Slight impacts loosen all kinds of things if you use pataincence.
GOOD LUCK

I've been running with only 3 screws at the backplate for 4 gallons on my Nova, no issues at all Although it is uncomfortable to know about it.....
