I know there is some tuning to be done every once in a while.
If you don't want to tune and need a good basher, I would probably go with an e-revo. Get a Neu Motor (1515 1.5d and 4s lipos) the truck will be pushing 60mph easily, you will never have to tune and get about 15-20 minutes per charge. If you can wait another month, wait on the Castle Creations ESC/Motor combo for $300 which is a Neu Motor knock off to save a few bucks. Buy three lipo packs and you can run an hour straight.

All in you are going to be about as much as you wuold spend on a truggy, but have a much faster vehicle.

all nitros require tuning all the time, literally every time you run them.
and since you're not an experienced RCer, you asked the question, or nitro guy I'd suggest taking Edumakated's advice and look into getting something else electric. no tuning and less maintenance

The savage is the ultimate basher. Lots of people like revos and if you asked for a Monster truck to race I would say revo, but they will never hold up to abuse and neglect like a savage.

As far as nitro engine tuning. You will have to break it in then retune after that. Once you have it tuned you shouldnt have to retune much at all unless you have a mechanical problem. Some people think you need to be turning needles every time you run and that simply isnt the case. I have a motor "granted it is a very high end motor" that I have not turned a needle on for at the minimum 6 months and it always runs great, blows plenty of smoke and temps well.

Just go to youtube and watch some bashing videos. Savages are pretty much indestructable. I really liked mine... That is dependiing on your definition of bashing. Drops from 20 feet high. go with a Savage....

If you really want to get a monster truck because of the wheelies, suspension travel, and realistic look, go with a savage. Those are tough as nails, and they're fun to drive. If you want performance in every category, get a truggy. It will be the fastest, toughest, and best handling truck. If you just want something huge and tough, check out the CEN genesis. It's the biggest nitro truck available, 3 speed transmission F/R, all steel gears, aluminum diff cups, and overall super beefy.
