Alright so my old ofna box isnt cutting it, and the double shotgun style 6cell packs are junk from sitting for four years so it's time to get a new box and power source for it. What seems to be the most popular style box? Relability, ease of setup, raw power. I dont want one made specifically for my car [rc8] because ive got several different brands of cars [my girlie runs a kyosho buggy, and my dad is considering building himself a truggy so he can spend some time with us, plus 1/8 onroad and other stuff lol]

Im getting tired of trying to halfass all my old gear into working with these brand new cars I built, time to update my whole operation.

p.s. a box that up-grade makes custom skins for is a plus+

+1 on the OFNA Chrome Top

I use to have a Ofna Chrome top and thought it was good untill I upgraded to the Mugen grey box with a lipo, by far one of my best investments in rc. The chrome top works just fine and there is nothing wrong with it, but it is big and weighs a lot! I weighed mine and I think it came out to 14 pounds and then I weighed my mugen box and I think it came out to 4 pounds. the numbers were something like those but I do remember for sure that there was a 10 pound difference. And still my smaller, lighter mugen box is more powerfull than the ofna box. Either way they will both work but from my experience the mugen box has been better in every way.

This is the box to get...I run two 7.2v 3600mAH packs and they last all day and it will turn over anything.

I use it and its awesome, but I am old fashioned, and use the old school gel cell... It may be a lil heavier but oh well!

Yep....this is the best box out there, as far as I'm concerned. I run mine with two 2S 4000mah lipos......Super light, lasts forever, and will start anything.

Cool deal, ofna truggy box it is. One thing, you think i'll be ok with a 12v gel cell? ive already got a brand new one,a nd if I go lipo i'll have to buy chargers and all that stuff

Ofna truggy box is a good one from what I have heard. Peronsally I run a mugen box and will never run another kind. I run it with a ht batteries 14.8 lipo 2100 pack. This set up is awesome and in my opinion the best set up out there.

I personally prefer the OFNA Chrome Top... for several reasons:

1) Direct drive. No belts to slip, no alignment problems...

2) Single motor. Simple, less points of failure.

3) Larger size provides more stability (easier to line the buggy up and start it)

4) With a gel-cell battery it works fine for breaking in the tightest motors... no lack of power there!

Ok, it's heavy... wah-wah... go to the gym.

And DO NOT get the little all-stainless one. It's ok, but a pain to set up for various cars, doesn't hold them well and keep them lined up... belts wear... I have that one, but don't use it.

have you ever had to replace the 12 volt motor in your chrome top starter box? I have the same one and the 12 volt motor shaft moves forward and stops once I put the flywheel on it. I was going to try and shim it before I buy a new motor for it.

i got my dad to make me a starter box using a On-road motorbikes starter motor, even with the tightest engine (when their new mostly) the starter dont even struggle, its easy, they are pretty easy to make, just weld up a frame get a starter motor and solarnoid and some old jumper cables, if any of you are interested in making one, PM me with ur email and ill send you some pics. pretty easy to make just need to know how to weld and have a grinder/etc to cut the steel so yer, PM me with your email for pics

Yeah I was actually going to consider that, make a frame out of some small diamete square tubing, drill holes and rivet some thin sheet metal for a skin, and use an old starter motor, i've got plenty laying around the hotrod shop

But my time is worth more than the cost of a new starter box
