What can I do to get my clutch nut off? If I try to loosen it, it just cycles the engine.

It's a brand new WS7T with Losi clutch and collet. I'm in the process of putting a clutch on it and my guess is that the nut bottomed out on the crank, so I'll have to use a bigger collet... if I can get the nut off the shaft.

Edit: It has blue loctite on it.

You can buy a piston stop tool if you have a non-turbo motor. If you have a turbo motor then I'm not sure, haven't seen a piston stop for one yet.

heat up the loctite, take channel locks and hold the flywheel. Take correct nut driver and loosen clutch nut.

It's a turbo engine, unfortunately. I can actually turn the engine by turning the flywheel, but the flywheel slips when the engine nears the pinch zone.

If I hold the flywheel while attempting to loosen the clutch nut, the flywheel just spins on the collet, and the loosening of the clutch nut will turn the engine over...


Essentially, I need a way of stopping the engine from turning over so I can loosen the clutch nut.

Fill the cylinder with after run oil through the exhaust port and turn the crank to close the port off. The oil won't compress so it will be locked up and you can get the nut off. Just try not to turn too hard on the wrench as this could be hard on the rod. If it is really tight you will need to heat the nut to break the loctite.

Take the back plate off and put a tough piece of plastic between crankcase and conrod. I've use a small bic lighter before.

ive ran into this, i just double up a zip tie and slide it in the exaust port to hold the piston....seems to work fine

piston locking tools are NOT meant for this application....all you are doing is transfering all that Cranking force to the con rod bushings and crank pin.....a peice of plastic in the backplate is By Far the safest way.

os makes a pretty sweet piston lockin clamp that goes in through where teh backplate is. - it cost me 15 bucks, but it doesnt stress the internals so bad

A cheaper solution is to remove the backplate and wedge the head of a large zip tie between the crank/rod and the crankcase wall.

If you can't do that rotate the engine past the top of the exhaust port, fill the combustion chamber with after run oil through the glow plug hole and reinstall the plug. This will kill the glow plug, but it will work to get your clutch nut off if done correctly.

Do not use a piston locking tool.. ever.

Make sure you use the Losi collet and not the RB one that comes on the engine. That is probably your problem.
