Default Novarossi Carb question

I have a N528 XR and have a question about the carb on it. I got it used, it has a three needle carb, High, Low and mid. Is this carb ok to run on this engine? It's not the carb that comes stock on the 528 but am wondering if thats a problem. I am having a hard time tuning it on the low end. I am running a hot pug and that could be part of it but I am waiting on a cold plug to come in

The mid range neddle gets left alone right?

Thanks for any help.

The three needle nova carb is great. What problem are you having?

That is the only carb to run. a little harder to get right but well worth the effort. If however you are not ready to learn the 3 needle tuning thing I will trade you a 2 needle or buy it out right.

The problem I'm having, and this is with a Hot plug (O'Donnell 77), is it's fat on the bottom. When I lean it out the idle comes up, naturally, so I back the idle needle off to where it sounds right then it will stall. I will try the cold plug, see if anything changes. Good to know about the carb.

Now do I ever tweak the mid range needle?

Thanks.

i would leave the midrange needle as is stock, this is what i use to teach myself on how to tune my own motors. it took me some time to become decent at tuning engines. But this is some good info and should help you understand on how to properly tune your nitro engine.

use a nova c6tc or c7tc depending on ambient temp the other altenative is a od 99t

turn all your needles in to close and then turn them out 4 1/2 complete turns then start your engine and work your way in 1/8th of a turn at a time .Use you radio with little stabs to tune the bottom but remember the temp must be 90 degress c above ambient plus or minus 5

do you calculations and you will never have a problem .

And whatever you do dont listen to people who tell you temp doesnt matter they wouldnt have a clue what they are talking about you want your engine realiable and able to last a long time not a short time

regards Angelo

I actually take offense to that statement but I'm in no mood to argue so I will leave it at this:

I would not say that temps do not matter at all but to tune to one specific temp is not always going to work.

Thanks for that link, I pretty much have a handle on tuning an engine, just have not used a three needle carb yet and was'nt sure if it was right for the engine it's on. Actually ran pretty good tonight at the track, and once I get the cold plug in I think it will be perfect.
