Default Peak Performace from a .21

Like the title says, I'll let you know why. I am inline to buy a used OS speed to replase the Mach out of my RTR 8ight, from a really fast guy that just bought a new motor and has no use for the OS. I dont really know him, he was pitting with us at last weekends race he offered me that motor for a good deal. So what I would like to know is how many have had good luck with used engines or which one ran the longest at peak performace without a noticible loss in power. I dont want to spend 200 bucks on a motor that past its prime, but i cant afford and new one.

What do you guys thinks??

Thx.
Dan.

200 bux for a used engine from a guy who pitted with you once and was fast.

I wouldn't.

Save your coin and buy a new engine when you can afford it. Much better that way and you know what you are getting. From what I've seen the regular vspecs are more than enough engine for almost everybody.
: )

Until then check out rayaracing.com or osrocket.com for your mach engine if it's giving you problems.

agreed, save and you will be better off in the long run, the speed's are nice thoe, do some serching and you can find new v specs which are plenty of engine for a killer price.

Yeah there are some good motors to be had for around 200. A picco or one of the cheap Nova's like an RB S3 would be better. Now if he comes down to 100 bux on the OS and you find some people to tell you that they know it's still good, that might be ok.

+1 With JBrows comment, its hard for me to buy any used engine, specially if you dont know the person. How did he care for his engine, running temps, after run etc. Thats just my 2 cents. Save and buy a new one and you will be happier IMO

Thanks for the response guys,

I have this engine with me now, is there anything I can look for without actually taking it apart. That would indicate how much it has been used , I was told three gallons have been through the motor if thats true then the motor should be still good to go i would think, he has a spare connecting rod with the motor. The guy that selling it, seems to be very miticules with everything. I was his pit guy in the truggy a main, the temps ran no higher than 250-260 in his OS vspec thoughout the 45min a main, runs werks fuel religiously.

Just remember, if the engine was all he could have wanted he would not be selling it. I have been around rc for a long time and have fallen victim to buying used parts before, and engines. I run a Pro Twister Modded go tech 3 port in my 8ight and it is insanely fast. Actually a little too fast.

Brian will mod this engine new for you for a total of 240 bucks and you will have a brand new absolute screamer. I cant stress enough how fast his engines are, not to mention reliable, and he is there to answer all of your questions whenever they arise.

shoot him an email if you havent already pulled the trigger on the used one

$200 Bucks for a used engine!!! Man go buy a new engine for that much. there are a bunch of gooood engines for $200. RB S5, S3 Gotech 7,5,3 and a bunch of other real screamers for $200. A used roller or radio thats one thing but an engine heck NO! Questions to ask your self, why is he selling it, why did he get a new engine, how many times was it put away with fuel in it, how many times did it get above 300 degrees, did he buy it used himself. There are to many unknowns and variables that can make an engine a $200 paper weight.

Great feedback. you guys are absolutly right there are way too many variebles that come into play with buying used engines, I should knw better. So what i am going to do is install it into my buggy and run a simulated 45 min main at at the track durring open practice today, and see how it feels, it if it screams and i dont have problems with it, i will send him the a cheque for it. If i think its on its way out then i'll just send the motor back to him.

I was looking to purchse a new OS speed for most of the summer, but traveling to races gets expensive, so i didnt. Im not really dead set on this engine i just dont want to pass up the oppurtunity to have a good engine for a good price. Saying that i definetly dont want a $200 paper weight.

thx for you time.
