Default dumb diff question

this thread is taking a turn...the question is a traction question...read the 20th post!!can you over fill a diff? how much should you put in,to the top of gears

i always fill mine to the top off the gears... i let it settle for a minute or two and then top it off if needed

yes you can overfill..

thats one of the biggest overlooked problems with leaky diffs.

fill just above the crosspins

So what you are saying, and correct me if I'am wrong and just don't understand, you want air in the diff case? I thought that was a bad thing just like a shock? Not contradicting you, just want to understand... let it role.. :-)

I always thought people said that because it made a mess. thats definately what happened to me, I accidently overfilled.

remember the opposite gear must go in the diffhousing too till the center...

an overfilled diff can give erratic beheavior of the buggy
as the oil gets warmed up , it expands
and oil must get a way out whatever
it can almost block the diff action in the beginning

the empty space above the gears is where the other crown gear goes, not air.

if its overfilled the extra oil will just push out past the seals and take the rest of the oil with it...

how is the pic I posted imaxx?

Im nt 100% sure if thats the proper amount, I actually ended up putting a little more than that, and I also had a bunch of oil that was still on the other gear, its 7000 so its thick and stuck onto it.

hard to tell from that angle, but looks ok

get some Naphtha to clean the gears in.
