Default Mugen Mbx5t Steering Mod

I searched and didn't find a article on how people are modding there steering setup to get more steering. Could some one please post some pics of what needs to be done or give me a link to a previous thread. Thanks

I think he is talking about dremeling the insides of the pillow blocks, but you dont need to do that on the new ones that come with the truggy or the 5r, they changed the mold to give the steering more throw.

There is no official articles I know of. You have to manually mod the upright. Actually, there was only one article and it was the first MBX5 series cars they did it on, not the MBX5T, as it has the same uprights as the MBX5R.

http://www.twf8.ws/new/tech/car/muge...rformance.html

It mentioned cutting the opening more. This is some old info, so don't think all the uprights might have this concern.

There is also one by M-Mod for the active caster system. Basically in that system, the steering will rotate a lot more, so they basically have you cut the inner sections out more, so the pivotball motion can follow exactly the same as the axle. In other words, if you take off the upright with axle and pivot balls installed, you'll notice the axle has more degrees of left/right movement than the pivot ball can, so they cut the sides out more so they move they have the same amount of left/right movement, which IMO, all of that is not needed, unless your using their system.

Could he be talking about the bump steer mod (shimming the tie rod ends)?

Thanks for the info everyone I appreciate it. I will try a 2.0 rear toe plate and see if that helps. What is the bump steer mod all entail?

On the MBX5R, that needed the bumpsteer mod, but on the MBX5T, it really wasn't needed since the tierods are longer, and it doesn't have as much affect on steering. You also don't need as much droop on the MBX5T. Also, when you limit droop on the MBX5T, you get a bit more steering. Remember though, the mod works for overall steering and turning radius. A 2.0 rear toe plate will make the truck rotate more in corners, by allowing the backend to slip or slide through corners, but offer more straightline speed due to less drag. There is a difference. The 2.0 toe plate is a dynamic characteristic to the handling, while the steering upright mod is a overall static mod. It will give more steering at all times.
