Which buggy for speed runs?
I'm looking for an 1/8 buggy with the strongest and most durable drivetrain to do speed runs. Heres whats on my mind... Losi 8, Team associate RC8, Xray 808 and Kyosho 777. Which one of these will have the strongest and most durable stock drivetrain?

the 808 is very light as well and has a hudy spring steel drive train so it'd have to be the strongest...?
#4
mugen and xray will have the strongest drivetrain....IMO
mugen may be a bit heavier than the rest, but its also geared a bit taller which will help

I am guessng you are going to convert it to electric, if this is true hands down the RC8. I have seen and drove the Losi and the RC8 converted with NEU motors and big Lipo and I loved driving the RC8 way better. The only buggy I have seen break this year at the track is the Losi. Dont know the X-RAY car sorry.

humm.... yes its going to be another conversion with 8s and a 1515 neu motor. I think the 808 seems like the chosen one. Seems like its got a strong enough drivetrain... thanks for the inputs guys!!!

don't know much about the others that you have mentioned. but when i was looking into a buggys for a twin engine conversion i decided on the mp777. and to honest i have had no trouble with the drive chain on the mp777.
yes it will probably be a little heavier than the others, but they are about the strongest you can get.
i acheived 75mph at a uk speed event. the car had 2 rb c6bb engines in it then, my only restriction on going faster was the gearing.

nice one!!
its going to be hard narrowing down on these two. 808 Vs 777...

About 4 years ago, I built a buggy for all out speed.
I radar clocked my old Hyper 7 PBS with the optional ofna 2 speed and Ultra II regeard pinion at 81 mph. The motor I used at that time was a RB C5 on road. I did that just for fun, but afterwords sold the buggy.

81mph from a hyper 7 mate is not realistic. i think maybe you radar was picking up a stone getting kicked off the tyres.
the 2 speed had a 44 tooth top end spur and the bell top pinion was 16. with standard 4.5" tyres that would give you a max speed at 34000 rpm of 50mph.
in order for you to get to 81mph you would need a pinion with 26 teeth!!!
and 34000rpm is about the max your gonna get out of an rb c5 circuit engine pulling a buggy, and beleive me you need to have it well tunned for that
i was running 2 rb c6bb engines with oversize 5" wheels with a 22t 46t pinion / spur . 34000rpm was the max i could get from them 74mph.
sorry to blow your bubble mate but this just didn't happen

Thats alright. We all have the right to doubt everything.
Question:
But why a buggy? Why not a on road for top speed?
If you want nothing but high speed, put in the biggest and baddest brushless that you can find. I'm not an electric guy, but I have seen some fantastic speeds run with buggy and 8th scale on roads with a brushless conversion.
The toughest drivetrain I've seen is in the Mugen and the Old Kyosho Kani

well i just prefer the higher ground clearance from buggies thats all... i'm converted to electric last yr and chances are, this new buggy WILL be another conversion
i will be running a min of 8s.. up to 12s...

If all your doing is speed runs on the street..why would you even want an Xray or any other top line RACING buggy..I would get a speedworks Turmoil or mayhem..Diffs and drive train super tough, cheap..relatively light..in the situation you are using one for a high dollar buggy is a waste..just an opinion..

I got 49.7 out of my Jammin X1 CR, O.S. xz28, 14t clutch bell, stock spur, tmaxx tires. GPS strapped to the wing. most of the speed came from the tire expansion tho. lol!!
