K&N type air filter any advantage ?
 

I was thinking about picking one up. I know in a car they make a big difference but has anyone tried one. In theory it should help but can anyone confirm it or just save my coin.

dont waste your money.

I've been curious about those filters as well since they allegedly increase airflow over the stock oiled foams, but here is the problem: I have not yet seen a single "pro" ever use these in any way on an R/C car. So it begs to be asked: if these things are supposed to be so much better, why isn't anyone running them competitively at either the club level or the pro level?

Persuant to this, I've drawn-up two possible conclusions:

-either 99.5% of R/C enthusiasts are grossly ignorant of this wonderful, magic bullet miracle filter, or

-there is a (or many) flaws in the filter that makes them ill-suited to racing, particularly in dirty conditions.

They are nice but for offroad I highly suggest getting 1 of those Outerwears prefilters for it. because they are not for having lots of dirt thrown at them.

Foam breathes better than cloth. A K&N filter flows better than a paper filter in a full sized car, not a foam filter. a K&N might offer better protection, but I have never seen dirt fully penetrate a properly mounted oiled foam filter.

Cloth can break down/or clog when it gets wet or muddy.

K&N filters are very heavy compared to a foam filter.

an oiled foam filter(s) provide more protection then a paper or cloth filter in the RC world.
